HHF - Legacy 2022 Other
"Legacy" is an open-enrollment outreach-based program that serves as the primary point of entry into all HHF programming. Legacy is designed to be responsive to emerging community needs and provide at least one point of contact between HHF and every member of the NYC skate community through a series of skate sessions, workshops, events, mentorship, and professional development opportunities. Under the training and supervision of our Social Worker, HHF Coach Mentors circulate throughout skateparks across the city and acquaint themselves with local skaters. Throughout the relationship-building process, Coach Mentors connect their roster of skaters with our community database, share information about available resources, invite them to events, and encourage them to pursue opportunities.
Data we gather through focus groups, surveys, and organic in-person outreach help us identify the NYC skateboarding community's interests, assets, and needs, which in turn informs how we develop programs and events that support skaters with their physical, cognitive, psychosocial, and professional development on and off their boards. Skaters with the greatest need for additional support, resources, and opportunities are provided with case management, which includes peer counseling, referrals to external resources and services, weekly group-based skate activities, monthly workshops focused on the development of social-emotional and self-management strategies, and issue/identity-based support groups led by our in-house Social Worker.
