HHF - Brownsville Skate Project (Spring Semester) Other
Through a partnership with L+M Development Partners/Marcus Garvey Houses, the Brownsville SportZone initiative, the Medgar Evers Beacon program, and the Frederick Douglas Boys & Girls Teen program, the goal of the Brownsville Skate Program is to provide access/exposure to skateboarding through free summer skate clinics to as many Brownsville youth as possible; support opportunities for them to engage in an active and meaningful, but not overly structured way, with skaters from Brownsville and nearby neighborhoods who are carefully trained to be Coach/Mentors; create an on-ramp to access resources for youth for skaters who typically don??????????¢??t participate in organized adult-led activities, and build a strong, vibrant, and cohesive Brownsville skate community. 2 dedicated HHF Coach/Mentors, are on duty at Betsy Head 6 days/week year-round, with support from an additional 2+ Skate Instructor/Mentors. In addition to the Legacy program services/activities, they provide 6-9 free skate clinics weekly during the summer and 4 skate clinics weekly during the fall and spring open to registered children age 5-17 (Wednesdays/Thursdays/Fridays) and for all ages via drop-in (Saturdays 1-4pm).
