Return to 2024 HHF Programs

The HHF Rider Development Program is a comprehensive initiative designed to empower skateboarders in NYC and beyond to unlock their full potential both as skateboarders and as individuals. Led by pro skater Leo Heinert, our program aims to provide a holistic and supportive framework for skateboarders in their journey towards becoming well-rounded athletes through a combination of skill development, physical conditioning, and industry navigation.

Program Components

  • Weekly street skate sessions (Thursdays)
  • Monthly indoor skate sessions at Vans198 (Tuesdays)
  • Monthly fitness classes (Saturdays)
  • Workshops, panels, and events (varies)
  • Video project featuring skaters from all 5 boroughs, Jersey, and Long Island

HHF Rider Development Program Goals

Strength & Conditioning: Recognizing the importance of overall fitness and injury prevention, the Rider Development Program places significant emphasis on building mental and physical strength and conditioning. Skaters are guided through exercises that target key muscle groups, enhancing their power, stability, and endurance. Additionally, customized stretching, mobility, and yoga routines are incorporated to improve flexibility and reduce the risk of injuries, ensuring that skateboarders can skate with confidence and resilience.

Performance Enhancement
: To maximize performance on the board, participants in the program are provided with personalized training regimens tailored to their specific needs. These regimens encompass a range of exercises and drills targeting strength, conditioning, agility, mobility, and balance. By systematically improving these aspects of physical fitness, skateboarders are empowered to push their limits and achieve optimal performance levels.

Navigating the Industry: Understanding the complexities of the skateboarding industry is essential for skateboarders seeking long-term success and sustainability. The Rider Development Program equips youth and young adults with the knowledge and tools necessary to effectively navigate the skate industry. Skaters gain insights into sponsorship opportunities, marketing, branding, and the importance of building strong relationships within and outside of the skateboarding community. Skaters will also have access to professional development workshops and internship opportunities. This knowledge empowers them to make informed decisions and pursue their skateboarding goals and other professional pursuits with confidence.

Skill Development: The Rider Development Program focuses on honing the existing skills of skateboarders, helping them refine their techniques and elevate their performance to new heights. Through specialized training sessions, experienced coaches and mentors provide valuable guidance, offering insights and strategies to enhance skateboarders' abilities in preparation for contests.

Wellness & Recovery:The program recognizes that a well-balanced and nourishing diet is crucial for skateboarders' overall well-being and performance. Participants receive guidance on nutrition, learning to make informed choices that support their physical health and recovery. By emphasizing proper fueling and hydration strategies, the program enables skateboarders to optimize their energy levels and enhance their recovery processes.
